SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - People in Springfield came together Thursday night to honor fallen officers.

A special Blue Light Ceremony took place outside of the Springfield Police Department. Local officials and families who have lost loved ones emphasized how police officers have dedicated their lives to safeguarding communities.
“Tell more of the good the officers do there's so many that do good out there and save lives every day and they seem to go unnoticed,” said Maura Schiavina of West Springfield.
Residents can take part and honor fallen officers by placing a blue light outside their homes or by their windows.
The Springfield Police Department announced they plan to display new plaques for fallen officers.
Monarch Tower will turn blue to honor the men and women who have fallen in the line of duty.
