WILMINGTON ISLAND, Ga. (WSAV) — A structure fire shut down a portion of Johnny Mercer Boulevard in the 200 block Thursday night.
The Chatham County Fire Department responded to an 8:15 p.m. call, Deputy Fire Chief Keith Hardin said.
A person who works nearby said there was a group of unhoused people behind the building, Autoplex Automotive, which is a closed vehicle repair shop, but officials said they are working to determine the official cause of the fire.

The fire was contained and there were no reported injuries, Hardin said. He also said that there is no issue with gasoline from the nearby gas station.
According to Chatham County Fire, the blaze was brought under control in less than 12 minutes.
Johnny Mercer was closed between Wilmington Island Road and the entrance to Publix.
