SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - The City of Savannah has given an update on the continued water main maintenance being done in the area around Gwinnett Street.   In October, a city-led investigation revealed that a section of an existing main had a noticeable leak and needed to be completely replaced. Savannah staff began the process of replacing that part of the water main.  The section has been replaced with a new 16-inch water main. The new water line will supply enough water to existing and future structures in the surrounding neighborhood.  The city's next step is to connect the newly installed water line to the existing water line at E. Broad. Two stormwater drainage inlets are also being replaced in the area to increase the drainage system's capacity to reduce future roadway flooding.  Once completed, the newly installed water main will be pressure tested, followed by water quality testing before being placed into service. After the necessary tests are completed, the city street will be resurfaced and re-opened.  Staff estimates this work will take four to six weeks to complete, barring any unforeseen delays or inclement weather.
