ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – While the first half was only a difference of four points, the Lobo men's basketball game against Grambling State ended in a 22-point New Mexico win. The difference came from a stern talking to from head coach Richard Pitino during halftime.
"I think they understood the message that we just needed to play with a way better effort and intensity than we were doing," Pitino said in a post game press conference. "We were way, way better coming out of the locker room."
Coming out of the break, UNM went on a 19-2 run.
Statistically, Donovan Dent led all scorers with 22 points. Tru Washington (15) and Mustapha Amzil (10) also reached double-figures. Nelly Jr. Joseph led the game with 11 rebounds and three blocks. Washington also recorded a career-high with five steals.
The Lobos return to the Pit on Sunday against Texas Southern. That game will tip off at 6 p.m.
