KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- In a season filled with firsts and accolades, Kansas City Current star Temwa Chawinga added a crowning achievement to her 2024 campaign by earning NWSL MVP honors. The attacking forward is the first in franchise history to win the award, which is selected by a combination of votes from players, owners/coaches/GMs, media and fans. Chawinga beat Orlando Pride forwards Barbra Banda and Marta, Washington Spirit forward Trinity Rodman and Portland Thorns forward Sophia Smith. FBI agent speaks on the ‘level of sophistication’ in Chiefs burglaries “We are so proud of Temwa for earning this award,” head coach Vlatko Andonovski stated in a news release. “Temwa has come so far this season in a short amount of time and is so important to our team, she is the clear MVP of both our team and the league. She does so much for us both offensively and defensively and, most importantly, she is a great teammate. I am so excited to watch Temwa continue to grow with our club.” Chawinga rewrote the record book on offense this season, becoming the first NWSL player to score 20 goals in a single season, winning the Golden Boot for the league's top scorer.
