Gov. McMaster to light state Christmas tree this weekend
Nov 22, 2024
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCBD) – Governor Henry McMaster and First Lady Peggy will celebrate the beginning of the holiday season when they light the state’s official Christmas tree.
The 58th Annual Governor’s Carolighting will happen on the north steps of the State House on Sunday night. Davis Wash, Miss South Carolina 2024, will host the event.
“Each year, Peggy and I look forward to the Carolighting,” said Gov. McMaster. “It is a great opportunity for South Carolinians across the state to come together to celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season.”
There will be a mix of traditional carols, performances by local artists, and illumination of the tree.
Gov. McMaster’s office said this year’s tree is a 35-foot Norway Spruce from Henderson Tree Farms in Morganton, North Carolina. It was purchased by the Columbia Garden Club with support from the Garden Club of South Carolina.
The tree arrived in Columbia last week with help from TimberTech of Greer.
Sunday's festivities will be broadcast on SCETV at 6 p.m.
