PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence Board of Licenses met last night to decide the fate of four Providence venues after violent incidents.
Afrique D’Lounge and Lovera VIP will reopen their doors, despite recent incidents of violence at both establishments.
Afrique D’Lounge on Federal Hill will remain open under a 90-day violation order.
If any violations occur, the business must close for two days.
The lounge was temporarily closed following an incident on November 3 where a security guard pulled a knife on a patron during an altercation.
The lounge is allowed to resume operations after hiring a new security company.
Lovera VIP has also been permitted to stay open.
The club was shut down last weekend after three people were stabbed.
One of the people stabbed was also a suspect who ran off from the scene and walked into Rhode Island Hospital before police arrived at the club.
Board members members agreed to keep both Saje Kitchen and Mezzo Lounge closed a while longer.
Saje Kitchen will remain closed as a police investigation continues.
The closure follows a stabbing incident that happened earlier this month on November 8.
During the altercation, the owner, 42-year-old Andre Samuel allegedly intervened by punching a patron.
Samuel is due back in court on November 25 to face a misdemeanor charge.
A Department of Business regulation hearing will be held later on its potential reopening.
Mezzo Lounge will also remain closed after police responded to a shots fired incident last weekend.
No one was hurt, but there were multiple cars to be discovered with bullet holes.
The nightclub remain closed as the police investigation continues.
The Providence Board of Licenses will hold another meeting on Mezzo Lounge on November 5.
Providence City Councilor Justin Royas, representing Ward 4 where Mezzo Lounge is located, released a statement on the nightclub which is below:
Neighbors, ahead of tonight’s 4 PM emergency show-cause hearing at the Board of Licenses regarding Mezzo Lounge and the incidents from Sunday, November 17, 2024, I want to share that I’ve submitted a letter calling for its permanent closure. This is not a decision I take… pic.twitter.com/rOKu1N0Jyx
