JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ) The new Cole County EMS Headquarters is hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday afternoon. Officials say the location of the headquarters is important as it's the only ambulance in downtown Jefferson City stationed at the Cole County Jail. This ambulance responds to more than 3,000 calls a year, which is 1,000 more than the other stations. The headquarters will include office space for administrative personnel, living quarters for crews and training rooms. The location of the headquarters would place another ambulance in the area, aiding in response times and helping to relieve crews. Cole County officials say the new headquarters was estimated to cost $4.8 million. Part of the cost was covered by a $2 million Community Development Block Grant awarded to Cole County and Jefferson City. Another $2 million was set aside from an EMS sales tax. Officials hope to install the approved baby safe haven box at the new headquarters early next year. The EMS Headquarter ribbon cutting is open to the public and will begin at 1 p.m. at 319 Adams Street in Jefferson City. There will also be a public open house from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
