Wind chills across the region is making it feel like temperatures are sitting in the 20s and 30s across the area this morning. A winter weather advisory remains in effect for Ashe, Avery and Watauga counties until 7am Saturday. Snow continues to fall with totals ranging from 2-6″ for the high country. Some of the highest elevations could see up to 8″ through this evening. This along with gusty winds up to 50-60 mph could cause treacherous travel for our mountain communities. Across the rest of the region it will be cold and breezy today with highs only reaching the low 50s, but it will feel more like the 40s today even with the sunshine. Winds will begin to die down and outside of a few flurries the snow will end across the mountains. Temperatures will climb back toward the low 60s, but even a light breeze will keep the air feeling crisp. More pleasant weather arrives Sunday as high pressure settles into the region. Highs will reach the mid 60s. Temperatures will remain mild and above average through early next week. A cold front will bring some light showers Tuesday into Wednesday with temperatures falling back into the mid to upper 50s Wednesday. Thanksgiving Day travel could be impacted by another system bringing even more wet weather.
