Wintrust Magnificent Mile Lights Festival: A nighttime parade in November? Bundle up and get out there. It’s worth it — particularly when the forecast is predicting a balmy 42 degrees. Mickey and Minnie will once again light up North Michigan Avenue in a parade and fireworks show capping off the 33rd annual Magnificent Mile Lights Festival. This year’s parade features Muppet balloons, including a 60-foot Kermit the Frog dressed as Santa and a 50-foot Animal. Arrive early for more fun in Pioneer Court, 401 N. Christkindlmarket: Get your boots ready: Christkindlmarket opens this weekend in Chicago’s Daley Plaza. Sip glühwein or cocoa as you wander the wooden huts filled with holiday wares. CTA Holiday Train and Bus: Get ready for one of the most joyous and beloved fixtures of the Chicago holiday season: Santa Claus rolls into town this week on the CTA. Kicking off with the Holiday Bus Nov. 26 and continuing with the first Holiday Train on Nov. 29, Santa rides the CTA with a troupe of elves throughout the city. Candy canes all around. City of Chicago Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony: Watch as officials flip the switch on the city’s official Christmas tree, a 53-foot Colorado blue spruce. Several performers — including Zion Ali, Rosalba Valdez, Teatro ZinZanni and more — will warm up the crowd during a 5 p.m. pre-show.
