HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Three people are without a home after a fire started by an unattended stove significantly damaged their Henrico County residence Thursday evening.
Just after 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, crews with the Henrico County Division of Fire were called to the 200 block of Naglee Road for report of a house fire.
According to battalion chief Doug Reynolds, when the first units got to the scene, they found heavy fire and smoke pouring from the back of the home.
After an initial search, firefighters found no one outside -- so they became concerned that any residents who may have been home were still inside the house. Crews began fighting the fire while also searching for anyone in need of rescue. However, no one was inside.
Later, two residents who had escaped the house without injury were found by firefighters, Reynolds said. No one else was home at the time.
The fire was put out in about half an hour. According to Reynolds, it was caused by an unattended stove. He added that unattended cooking is the leading cause of fire in Henrico County.
Due to the significant damage the fire caused, three residents were displaced. Reynolds said the Red Cross is currently assisting them.
