Petersburg residents asked to stay inside as police searched for, detained possiblyarmed suspects

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- Some Petersburg residents were asked to stay in their homes as police searched for at least one possibly armed suspect connected to the theft of a vehicle and weapons.
At 4:38 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, the Petersburg Bureau of Police reported that its officers were in the area of Halifax and Custer streets searching for "possible armed subject."
Residents in that area were asked to stay inside for their safety.
This came after a theft of a vehicle and weapons in the 1500 block of Halifax Street by multiple male suspects, according to police.

At 4:38 p.m., police said four suspects had been detained and at least one remained at large.
Just before 8 p.m., 8News reached out to police to check on the status of this situation, as well as confirm how many suspects were potentially involved.
At 9:39 p.m., the Petersburg Police Division posted the following to X, formerly known as Twitter:
"@PBurgPolice have cleared the Halifax Street and Custer Street area at this time. There is no threat or danger to the public at this time."
