RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A Richmond youth football team needs your help getting to the national title games in Naples, Fl. Head coach DaJon Austin has been coaching the East End Tigers for five years. In many cases, Austin said the boys are like family to him. “Some of these kids don't come from two-parent households,” Austin said. “I enjoy being a mentor, being a father figure, taking these boys up and down the East Coast, experiencing things over the past two years.” Those relationships have culminated in success for the Tigers. Under Austin’s coaching, the team has made four state title games in a row, including this year. On Nov. 9, the Tigers got redemption against the VA Jags in the state title game in Virginia Beach. “The boys' motto this year was finish,” Austin said. “Last year we didn't finish. So, all through this year we just preached, 'Finish, finish the job, finish the mission.'” Parent Meghan Reynolds said her son Malachi Chilton has benefited tremendously from Austin’s coaching and says the program has taught him and his teammates valuable life lessons. “He encourages the boys, he leads by example,” Reynolds said. “He is always there; he's always showing up. He instills discipline in the boys.” Reynolds said a trip to Naples and a win would be the cherry on top for a perfect season. “They deserve it,” Reynolds said. “They have worked for years. They've been together for years and they have worked so hard to accomplish this dream of going to Florida and being in nationals and having a chance. And they'll be out there representing Richmond, Virginia.” The national championship game is Dec. 7.  The team will need $5,000 to cover expenses like food, travel, housing and other activities.
