PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence Board of Licenses ordered both Mezzo Lounge and Saje Kitchen to remain closed during police investigations into violent incidents that took place at both businesses.
Mezzo Lounge on Charles Street was ordered to close after a shots fired incident, while Saje Kitchen was closed after a stabbing that involved the restaurant’s owner, who was arrested, took place.
Providence City Councilor Justin Roias submitted a letter calling for the permanent closure of Mezzo.
Neighbors, ahead of tonight’s 4 PM emergency show-cause hearing at the Board of Licenses regarding Mezzo Lounge and the incidents from Sunday, November 17, 2024, I want to share that I’ve submitted a letter calling for its permanent closure. This is not a decision I take… pic.twitter.com/rOKu1N0Jyx

“Public safety in the North End should not be held hostage by a business that has failed, time and again, to control its patrons or operate responsibly,” he said in the letter.
