INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis man is facing a felony count of aggravated battery and other charges after allegedly biting off a portion of his father's nose and ear after a fight on the city's west side.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched on Nov. 17 to a residence on Darkwood Drive in response to reports of a dispute occurring between family members in the area.

Court documents show that officers arrived on the scene and immediately observed a man, identified as Trevor Smith, fighting on the ground with his father in the front yard. Police managed to break the two men apart and place Trevor into handcuffs while they began investigating the circumstances of the incident.
Another officer began applying first aid to the other male after observing large amounts of blood coming from his nose and right ear.
"It was immediately apparent a big chunk of his nose and right ear were gone," court documents read.
After providing medical aid to the victim, officers learned that Trevor was his son and that the two had gotten into a physical altercation.
The father allegedly told officers that his son had sent some "disturbing" messages leading up to the incident and that he seemed "off." The father learned that Trevor was planning to arrive at his mother's residence and planned to get in touch with him there since he was concerned.
The victim explained that he arrived at the residence and found Trevor involved in a physical altercation with his stepfather on the front porch. It was at that moment that he decided to intervene and sustained his injuries.
The father was transported to Eskenazi Hospital for medical treatment.
Officers then turned their attention to Trevor who allegedly informed officers that he was "stuck inside his 8-year-old brain" as he was navigating memories of childhood abuse he claimed to have suffered.
Trevor went on to allegedly state that he went over to the house to "protect" his brothers.
Court documents show that officers spoke with Trevor's stepfather who told them that Trevor arrived and allegedly began banging his fist on the front door of the home as he demanded to be let inside.
The stepfather told officers that he opened the door and observed Trevor standing before them with a gun in his hand and two magazines in the other hand, court documents said.
The witness then allegedly asked Trevor to return when he calmed down, leading to a tussle with Trevor to gain control of the weapon.
At one point during the altercation, the stepfather said Trevor allegedly gained control of the firearm and struck him on the head with it, according to court documents.
Officers proceeded to detain Trevor and brought him in for questioning. In the beginning, court documents show that Trevor allegedly asked the officer who was reading him his rights if he could slow down, claiming he was autistic.
The officer responded by speaking slower before Trevor told him he could continue reading at a normal pace and that he was just being a "smart a**."
Trevor revealed that he wanted his brothers to live with him while admitting that he had sent some "f***ed up messages." He emphasized that it was never his intention to hurt or scare anyone, stating that he only wanted to protect his brothers.
Court documents show that Trevor claimed the entire incident began when he began experiencing memories of alleged abuse while he was working through therapy. Trevor reportedly said he brought it up to his family.
The interview then turned to Trevor's perspective on the incident with his father.
Trevor recalled pushing his father and being kept in a headlock. He also allegedly remembered holding his father and biting his nose at one point during the commotion.
“He didn’t realize you could do that so easily, but he just did," court documents said.
The officer noted that Trevor would randomly whisper and shake his legs for the majority of the interview and wouldn't make any eye contact while they were speaking.
Police also spoke with Trevor's father who told them he recalled hearing Trevor laugh while the pair were wrestling on the ground. Court documents indicated he would need skin grafts and an "unknown" amount of medical procedures.

As part of their investigation, detectives reviewed Ring video footage that was provided to them by the witnesses. Court documents said Trevor can be seen appearing to throw his father off the porch.
In the next frame, the father lands on his back with Trevor coming on top of him. Court documents described Trevor allegedly saying, "You like being on top, you little b**ch. I'll f**cking kill you," while the father could be heard saying, "Trevor, stop."
Trevor was transported to the Marion County Jail where he has been preliminarily charged with aggravated battery - causing serious permanent disfigurement (level 3 felony) and battery by means of a deadly weapon (level 5 felony).
