Downed aircraft training held at Fort Carson
Nov 21, 2024
(FORT CARSON, Colo.) — Soldiers from the 4th Combat Aviation Brigade conducted downed aircraft training at Fort Carson on Thursday, Nov. 21.
The training started on Wednesday and continued on Thursday. Teams are refining their procedures when it comes to emergency crash landings.
Lt. Col. Douglas Gray, Commander of the 404th Aviation Support Battalion, said the training is highly important to ensure that if the moment arises, teams are ready to quickly and safely recover downed aircrews and aircraft anywhere.
"They had gotten a list of what was wrong with it... and what [they] could potentially have as issues, so they're going to try to fix the aircraft, and if they can no longer fix the aircraft, then they'll call in for assets, so that way they can get the aircraft out," said Sgt. Ricardo Rodrigues with the 4th Combat Aviation Brigade.

Teams had to focus on all the fine details during their training, and sometimes the exercises were even executed with an opposing force, to simulate a real-life combat scenario.
