BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Baton Rouge Police Department arrested a suspect believed to be connected to a drive-by shooting that claimed the life of a young man.
On Tuesday afternoon, Dylan Fox, 19, in handcuffs, was being led to jail and charged in the shooting death of Eric Taylor, 14.
"I can say the evidence we retrieved from that video was a big part of our investigation," said BRPD Lt. L'Jean McKneely.
Police said they retrieved surveillance video from the 3300 block of Plank Road and connected the dots.
Police said a gray Honda pulled up next to Taylor and his stepsister as they were walking to Domino’s on Plank Road and opened fire. The car sped away. Taylor was shot in the head and later died.
BRPD: Two more arrests made in drive-by shooting that left teen dead
Police said surveillance video led BRPD to the alleged killer, the owner of the vehicle, the primary driver and two witnesses.
"That you can remain anonymous in giving us that surveillance footage, it’s a tool you may have that we can use to assist us in our investigations," said McKneely.
Solving crimes also brings some sense of closure to victim’s families. Taylor’s mother spoke only to BRProud this week. It’s the second time this year she is burying one of her children.
“What would bring you justice?" asked BRProud investigative reporter John Rupolo.
"I want to know was this for him or was this meant to be and if they catch who did it," said Tammy Taylor, mother of Eric Taylor.
