ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A local woman who experienced heart failure is now celebrating her second chance at life. "There are no words that can fully capture the gratitude I feel towards each and everyone who played a role in saving my life." That was Sydney Pelusio, a 32-year-old mother of two. News 8 reported her story back in March when doctors said she experienced a miraculous recovery. Today, it's an emotional moment as she celebrates her life with family, healthcare providers, and faculty at Rochester Regional Health. "It feels extremely overwhelming while also full of hope," she said. Pelusio experienced flu-like symptoms. Her husband was adamant that she had to go to Urgent Care, but a heart transplant seemed like the only option. She was eventually diagnosed with a type of Myocarditis. Dr. Amanda Coniglio says one in 20,000 people suffer from this. "It's hard for her and for me as her doctor that she's had cold symptoms and whatnot since all this has happened and trying to figure out what is just a regular cold versus what is potentially the beginnings of this happening again is always very concerning," said Dr. Coniglio. Pelusio wants anyone experiencing the same thing to know — you are not alone. "There are people to help you, resources, family, friends, doctors, anybody that you can talk to would be helpful," Pelusio said/ She is now training for a half marathon that's in February, but she is taking things day by day.
