Weather forecast: Rochester rain with heavy snow at elevation
Nov 21, 2024
ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) - Rain has arrived in Rochester this evening. I doubt it'll stop for at least 24 hours as we gear up for a long night of wet weather. South of town across higher terrain, it'll be a long night of accumulating snow.

Precipitation will continue to become more steady into the night as low pressure along the coast gets flung westward toward us. North of the Thruway, the air will not support anything more than random wet flakes mixing in with predominantly cold rain. This includes Rochester. In these areas, most of you will pick up over an inch of much needed rainfall. South of I-90 at elevation, particularly Wyoming and southern Ontario/Yates counties, several inches of wet, clingy snow will accumulate. I wouldn't be shocked to see a few random spots cashing in on more than half a foot of snow.
Through the entire month of November thus far, Rochester has picked up 0.81" of rain. The HRRR suggests we'll double that figure in the next 24 hours alone. Much of Friday will feature continued steady, soaking rain with elevation wet snow before gradually breaking apart late. Showers will become scattered Saturday and more isolated by Sunday with daily highs remaining in the 40s.
