Primetime 585 Spotlight Team: Eastridge football
Nov 21, 2024
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Eastridge football team went 0-8 last season. This year, the Lancers won the Class B sectional title, earning them the spot as this week's Primetime 585 Spotlight Team.
First-year head coach Victor Davidson led Eastridge to the championship after the Lancers defeated second-seeded Honeoye Falls-Lima in the semifinals on a Hail Mary. Eastridge then knocked off undefeated Batavia in the title game 28-14 to win its first sectional championship since 2013.
The Lancers were led by title game MVP Christian Beason who rushed for 137 yards with a touchdown. Offensive MVP Dwayne Collins had two touchdowns, one rushing and one on a pass from Benny Calixto, earning 116 all-purpose yards.
"I'm feeling amazing right now," Calixto said. "These guys, we've been here since we were young and, you know, this is what we've dreamed of. It's just great to go from 0-8 to winning a sectional championship with the guys."
Ian Schneeberger was named defensive MVP of the game, totaling 11 tackles, a sack and two forced fumbles.
"We all clicked on all cylinders almost the entire game," Schneeberger said. "Everyone else around me did everything. We did everything we needed to do, we performed perfectly. This is exactly what we needed."
Steven Masetta also contributed to the win with a 28-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter.
"It feels great to win, especially with my brothers. We've been playing together forever," Masetta said. "After 0-8, it was really depressing. But now we're here, and we're holding a brick."
Congratulations to Coach Davidson and Eastridge for winning the Class B sectional championship and earning the Spotlight Team of the week!
