NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A thousand National City families were treated to free turkeys Thursday ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. The giveaway, put on by the Sycuan Council, was part of an annual event designed to make the family-oriented day go a little smoother for those in need. For the third year in a row, Sycuan partnered with the San Diego Padres and the National School District to put on the event. Free turkeys were handed out to pre-selected families who lined up. It was a drive-through style giveaway. Not only did they get a free turkey, they also got a Padres beanie to sport. The gesture goes a along way to help families who might need a little extra help this holiday season.
