'No such thing as pressure': Savannah High's response to No. 1 preseason ranking
Nov 21, 2024
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The expectations could not be higher on Pennsylvania Avenue. The Savannah High boys' basketball team was ranked No. 1 team in the preseason for its classification.
This means they are expected to hoist the championship trophy in Macon come March.
Two games into the season, Savannah High is 1-1. They suffered their first loss of the year to Greenbrier on Nov. 16. Head Coach George Brown noting Greenbrier shot 37 free throws to Savannah High's 16.
He also said the goal was never to go undefeated for the entire season. He wants to go unblemished through the region schedule and state playoffs.
"No such thing as pressure," Brown said. "Not to me. That's how I approach it, at least. We're just grateful for it. You know it just puts Savannah High back where I really think it belongs basketball-wise in the city. Like I said, I'm just grateful for it. We're happy for it. Our guys are ecstatic and we appreciate the target that it puts on our back because it also brings exposure."
Savannah High is off until Nov. 29. They play Harlem in the Savannah Hoops Shootout at Enmarket Arena at 8 p.m.
