Warm end to the week before the next chances for precipitation
Nov 21, 2024
Temperatures are warming up this afternoon for New Mexico. We can expect these above average temperatures to continue through the weekend.
A ridge of high pressure has moved over New Mexico this afternoon. The ridge will continue to intensity through the evening. The ridge will be warming up temperatures across New Mexico today. The highs are expected to be 3-15 degrees above average. Temperatures will warm up further on Friday.
On Friday, a trough of low pressure off the Pacific Northwest will begin to move eastward. This trough will cause the ridge over New Mexico to flatten. This flattening will begin on Friday and last through early next week. The flattened trough will result in increases westerly winds across New Mexico.
The increased westerly winds will bring even warmer weather to New Mexico on Sunday. The winds winds will also intensify late weekend due to an upper level jet. This jet will draw up moisture across New Mexico beginning on Sunday.
The increased moisture across the state will result in rain and mountain snow. The snow will begin for the mountains of southern Colorado on Sunday. This snow will make its way into the northern mountains of New Mexico on Monday. The rain accompanying the snow will be fairly spotty. The rain is only forecasted to reach as far south as the Metro. The rain and snow will be sticking around through at least Wednesday.
