Braun transition team outlines restructuring of Indiana executive branch

INDIANAPOLIS -- Mike Braun, Indiana's next governor, plans to restructure the state's executive branch and cabinet once he takes office.
According to a news release from Braun's transition team, Braun announced that they plan to implement a new cabinet model "to drive efficiency, accountability and communication in state government."
The cabinet is expected to consist of the following individuals overseeing the branch. Those individuals include:
Governor
Chief of Staff
The chief of staff will "set the agenda."
Lieutenant Governor
Will serve as president of the Indiana Senate and assume the role of governor should Braun be unable to fulfill the duties of office or if the office falls vacant because of death.

Office of Community and Rural Affairs
Superintendent of State Police
Will serve as the executive head of the Indiana State Police and handles oversight of ISP and its operations
Adjutant General of the Indiana National Guard
Will serve as commander of the Indiana National Guard and provide "essential administrative functions related to legislative and legal affairs" including contracting, purchasing and accounting, facilities management, human resources and youth education

The eight areas that the secretaries will lead include:
Secretary of Management and Budget
Will be responsible for developing the budget, providing management of agencies in finance, technology and shared services, and serves as operational oversight across secretary verticals
This secretary will also oversee "the overall transformation of state government and work with cabinet secretaries to identify future opportunities for consolidation within and across agencies to improve service delivery and drive cost savings."

The release said each cabinet secretary will help drive progress within their respective "vertical." The members will be "directly responsible for agency performance and continuous improvement."
"This new cabinet model will allow us to be laser-focused on delivering results for Hoosiers," Braun said in the release. "By aligning agencies and reorganizing the executive branch, we can drive accountability for leaders and agencies, promote better coordination and communication between our administration and the Indiana General Assembly, and create efficiency across state government."
