Kids, pets safe after fire at home off Maplecrest Road

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Two children and their pets made it safely out of a house that caught fire Thursday afternoon in a northeast side neighborhood.
Around 3 p.m., crews with the Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a home in the 6200 block of Millhollow Lane near Georgetown Square. A fire had ignited in the living room, according to a release from FWFD.

Two children were in the home and safely got out, while firefighters saved two dogs that were found in the garage. No one was hurt, according to the release.

Traffic on Maplecrest Road was temporarily slowed as fire trucks and ambulances made their way to the scene.
Firefighters determined the home was heavily damaged by the smoke, flames and water. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
