FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — The Rescue Mission offers community members a safe haven from the frigid cold that has now come onto the horizon. The shelter operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year-round but always sees an influx in need when temperatures start to dip. "...it's profound, the increase in those that are experiencing the crisis of homelessness in our community, and we are here to continue to serve those that any time, at any moment, that they're in crisis that we can help them be an assistance to them," said Thomas McArthur, President & CEO of The Rescue Mission. They have a day shelter running from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm every day, they also offer three hot meals a day at 7:00 am, 12:00 pm, and 5:00 pm. Wednesday, Nov. 27 they are expecting to hand out over 5,000 meals ahead of Thanksgiving. That will be hosted at 404 E. Washington Blvd. from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The Thanksgiving meal is free and open to all members of the community and will be available as dine-in, carry-out, and drive-thru. There is a limit of three meals per individual.
