(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said the driver who died in a crash on I-25 just south of Colorado Highway 24 has been identified as 26-year-old Michael J. Lose.
According to CSPD, on Oct. 26 at around 10:15 a.m. officers were called to a crash involving a car and a fuel truck on southbound I-25 just south of Exit 139 or Hwy. 24. When first responders arrived on the scene it was determined that Lose, the driver of the car was dead. The passenger of the car was taken to a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the truck was not injured.
CSPD's Major Crash Team responded to the scene and took over the investigation. The investigation showed that both vehicles were traveling southbound on I-25 near exit 139, witnesses told police the car was weaving in and out of traffic lanes at a high rate of speed.
The fuel truck was merging onto I-25 and was entering the right-through lane when the car struck the rear of the fuel truck. Police said impairment is not suspected, however, speed is a possible factor in the cause of the crash.
CSPD said this was the 44th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2024, at this time in 2023 there were 44 traffic fatalities.
