USDA invests in North Dakota tribal and rural communities

NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — The U.S. Department of Agriculture is releasing almost $12 million for grant and loan investments in North Dakota.
According to the Rural Development ND State Director, Erin Oban, these funds will go toward improving infrastructure and support non-profits and small businesses in rural and tribal communities.
"The federal investments announced today help further the great things happening from the Turtle Mountains to Turtle Lake and the Devils Lake region down to Regent," Oban said in a press release. "From servicing and transportation vehicles to quality water and renewable energy systems, to new economic development opportunities, the resources made available through USDA Rural Development will continue to expand opportunities and improve the quality of life for our families and friends living, working, and serving in some of our most rural areas throughout North Dakota."
$41,056 will be used by the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians for the Community Facilities Program for the purchase and installation of solar panels for the Dunseith Fire Department.

$9,392,500 (across three grants) will be used by the Turtle Mountain Public Utilities Commission to replace and repair the existing water distribution systems.
$24,900 will be used by the Turtle Mountain Recovery Center to buy a transportation vehicle to bring patients to and from the new Recovery Center.
The Turtle Mountain Animal Recovery Center will use $42,000 to buy a utility task vehicle, computer, scissor lift, and generator.
A Water and Environmental Program grant of $1,618,000 will be used by the City of Turtle Lake to repair and replace sanitary sewer lines throughout the city.
A $500,000 loan will be used by North Central Planning Council to create a revolving loan fund to promote small businesses, create or retain jobs, and provide economic and social development opportunities.
Finally, the Roosevelt-Custer Regional Councill will use $120,000 to conduct a study on Enchanted Theme Park in Regent.
