BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — No. 4 Central Wildcats host No. 13 West Ouachita in the Regional round of the playoffs in Division I Non-select on Friday.
The Wildcats (9-1) are coming off a first-round bye, while West Ouachita (10-1) came out on top in a heavyweight bout with Denham Springs in round one. It took an overtime win by the Chiefs, 42-41, to advance to the Regional round.
Central is looking to build on a successful postseason run in year one under head coach David Simoneaux. The Wildcats earned a quarterfinal berth for the first time in a decade and could host a quarterfinal matchup if they get past West Ouachita.
"We'll have our hands full now on the defensive side of the football and then offensively it's about us coming out and executing our game," said Simoneaux. "Being able to just go out there and establish some rhythm early and have some success early so that we can hopefully springboard that into a great playoff run."
The winner out of Central-West Ouachita will face the winner out of No. 5 Mandeville and No. 21 West Monroe.
