BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A Baton Rouge police officer was placed on administrative leave after shooting at a subject during a disturbance call.
According to the police, in the early morning hours of Nov. 21, BRPD officers were called to a home in the 3400 block of North Sherwood Forest, regarding a violent disturbance between roommates.
"Officers attempted to contact the suspect, who was armed with a knife and disregarded officers’ verbal commands to disarm himself by dropping the knife," BRPD said. "The subject did not comply and began moving toward the officers with the knife in hand. As a result, one of the officers fired a single gunshot, striking the subject."
Louisiana State Police said in a news release on Thursday afternoon that they were called in to help investigate the shooting. The investigation was turned over to the Louisiana State Police since the incident was outside city limits, BRPD said.
According to BRPD, officers offered medical assistance to the subject before they were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
LSP said the suspect was later booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
The investigation is ongoing. Call in tips to the LSP Fusion Center Hotline at 1-800-434-8007 or report anonymously online at lsp.org.
