BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Thanksgiving is one week away and Victory Outreach made sure families had meals to celebrate the holiday. The church held its annual turkey giveaway Wednesday night at its campus in southwest Bakersfield. Mercy Air Medical Program celebrates 35 years of service in California, Nevada communities Hundreds of families visited the campus and received a plump turkey and sides to make a nice holiday meal. Victory Outreach has kept giveaway going for nearly a decade which helps combat food insecurity in Kern County. "It's very important because we see the need, we see the financial issues of people going through this year. There is a lack of family financial, and we want to be there to support them as a church to help back them up wherever we can whether it's a turkey or a bag of food," Associate Pastor Armando Aceves said. Last year, the church handed out around 300 turkeys to families in need.
