AUSTIN (KXAN) — Hawaiian Airlines will no longer fly directly between Austin and Honolulu in March 2025, an airline spokesperson told KXAN Thursday. As of March 27, passengers will have to make a connection in San Diego, Seattle or another airport, the spokesperson said. The change will allow Hawaiian to redeploy planes elsewhere in their network. Alaska Airlines purchased Hawaiian in a deal that completed in September. While operating as one company, the two brands will be kept separate. "As we begin the exciting work to integrate our combined networks to offer our guests more flights and connections to more cities, we are making some initial adjustments to a few routes," the spokesperson told KXAN. Nonstop flights between Austin and Honolulu began in April 2021. Since then, more than 235,000 passengers have flown on the route. Earlier this year, the airline increased frequency of the route over the summer, with flights operating four times a week. "Since welcoming Hawaiian Airlines to Texas in 2021... we have been proud to support this route," AUS said in a statement posted to social media. "AUS leadership remains committed to partnering with airlines to attract new nonstop services for our travelers and community." AUS Data Hub: Passenger totals, busiest months and new flights in 2024 and 2025 Three other route cancellations have already been announced for 2025. American Airlines will end nonstop service to Santa Ana, California, on Jan. 5, and Allegiant Air will end flights to Bozeman, Montana, and Louisville, Kentucky, on Jan. 7.
