Maryland burn ban lifted

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (DC News Now) -- Weeks after a statewide burn ban was put in place, Maryland said the ban on outdoor burning no longer was in effect.
The state lifted the restriction Thursday, noting that the decision came after a review of weather and ground conditions.
Maryland Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) ordered the ban on open-air burning on Nov. 1 in order to prevent the spread of wildfires across the state.
“The statewide burn ban has been a critical tool to minimize damage these last few weeks. We appreciate their patience and are glad to be able to rescind this restriction safely," said Maryland Forest Service State Fire Supervisor Chris Robertson.
Extremely dry conditions throughout the year led to an above average number of wildfires statewide in October. Recent rain and a forecast of normal weather patterns for this time of year led Maryland Forest Service to determine the ban was not needed anymore.
While rainfall has helped offset the fire danger, Maryland still is experiencing drought conditions, which is why the state asked people to refrain from outdoor burning if possible. If outdoor burning is necessary, officials asked people to use extreme caution.
An important note: Some counties had burn bans in place before the statewide one went into effect, so you should check with officials in your area about the situation where you live or work.
