Some lilacs are blooming in Highland Park: What does that mean for the spring?
Nov 21, 2024
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — With the recent mild trend we've been seeing, your body clock might be confused, and the same goes for mother nature.
News 8 heard from viewers who noticed some lilacs are blooming right now at Highland Park.
Marci Muller, Horticulture Program Leader from Monroe County Cooperative Extension, tells us most lilacs form their buds in the fall - and then in the spring they open up. However - there are a variety of lilacs that on occasion will partially flower in the fall.
"So the ones you are seeing now at Highland Park are part of that group where you know depending on the weather that year, they will throw out maybe 25% of their flowers but the real flower show will be in the spring along with the rest of the lilacs," Muller said.
