SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - Savannah's own Meghan Seiter took second place on Saturday at the inaugural Every Woman's Marathon in Savannah.
Over 7,000 women from all over the United States signed up to run in Every Woman's Marathon hosted by Team Milk in Savannah, Georgia. This groundbreaking race is designed for women by women.
The event served as an empowering first step into the world of endurance running for many women who never imagined crossing a marathon finish line. The field was made up of over 40% of participants being first-time marathon runners.
28-year-old Khai Kurtenbach from New York took first place with a time of 2 hours and 46 minutes. Seiter took second with a time of 2 hours and 51 minutes. Amy Will of Minnesota rounded out the top three in 2 hours and 53 minutes.
The three were greeted at the finish line by Every Woman’s Marathon captains trailblazer Kathrine Switzer and two-time Olympian Des Linden. All three had their medals placed around their necks by the captains.
The marathon route allowed runners to see staples of Savannah, including Taylor Square, Forsyth Park and Savannah State University. Runners were treated to continuous entertainment during the runt that included local bands and artists, cheer squads, aerial performers, and more.
Following the race, runners and their families enjoyed recovery zones with expert stretchers, food trucks and DJ sets at the Finish Line Festival. There was also a surprise concert by singer Natasha Bedingfield.
Every Woman's Marathon also offered a virtual race for individuals who were unable to travel to the race location. As of today, over 8,500 have virtually finished the race.
