The Park City Police Department in the middle of November reported numerous traffic stops involving drivers suspected of speeding in various locations, including the S.R. 224 entryway.Speeding and other traffic offenses have long been one of the chief law enforcement complaints of Parkites and the Police Department regularly conducts traffic patrols. The most recent cases were typical for the agency, but they highlight the continuing issues on the roads as the fall shoulder season continued. Traffic is expected to increase in coming weeks with the planned opening of the ski season at Park City Mountain.Public police logs in some cases did not provide details about whether a driver received a citation or a warning. The police are believed to issue warnings in many instances unless a violation is deemed to be egregious enough to warrant a citation or the person is a repeat offender.Recent cases included:On Sunday, Nov. 17, at 9:22 p.m., a police officer stopped a driver on S.R. 224, indicating the vehicle was traveling at 66 mph in a location where the speed limit is 45 mph. Public police logs did not specify whether the driver received a ticket or a warning. On Nov. 17 at 4:54 p.m., a police officer pulled over a driver on S.R. 224 after observing the vehicle’s speed at 60 mph in a location where the posted limit is 45 mph. Public police logs also indicated there was an unspecified issue with the vehicle registration. The logs did not provide details about whether the driver received a ticket or a warning. On Nov. 17,  an officer at 1:44 p.m. stopped a driver after observing the vehicle traveling at 28 mph in a location on Monitor Drive where the posted limit is 20 mph. The driver received a warning. On Nov. 17 at 7:31 a.m., an officer stopped a driver in the area of the intersection of S.R. 224 and Meadows Drive after the police said the vehicle was found to be traveling at 49 mph in a location where the speed limit is 40 mph. There was also a “white light” coming from the driver-side taillight, the police said. On Nov. 17 at 6:29 a.m., a police officer pulled over a vehicle in the area of Empire Avenue and Park Avenue after observing a speed of 56 mph in a location where the posted limit is 40 mph. The officer issued a citation. On Friday, Nov. 15, at 6:46 a.m., an officer stopped a driver in the area of Kearns Boulevard and Richardson Flat Road, indicating the vehicle was traveling at 48 mph in a location where the speed limit is 25 mph. Public police logs did not provide details about whether the officer wrote a ticket or a warning. On Thursday, Nov. 14, at 5:33 p.m., an officer pulled over a driver on S.R. 224 at a speed of 60 mph in a location where the posted limit is 40 mph. Public police logs did not provide details about whether the driver received a warning or a ticket. On Thursday, Nov. 14, at 1:58 p.m., an officer stopped a vehicle in the area of S.R. 224 and Meadows Drive after observing a speed of 60 mph in a location where the posted limit is 45 mph. The police said the person did not possess a driver license and the vehicle registration was expired.
