Deer Valley timeline for Snow Park calls for finished project well before Winter Olympics
Nov 21, 2024
Deer Valley Resort has provided a draft timeline for the development of a base village at Snow Park calling for the work to be completed in 2031, three years before the resort is slated to host competitions during the 2034 Winter Olympics. The timeline is one of the highlights of a Deer Valley submittal to City Hall that was released as the resort and Park City leaders prepare for a discussion on Thursday about financial aspects of a project. The inclusion of some of the square footages and unit numbers makes the timeline notable with the Thursday meeting approaching.Highlights of the timeline include:Parking structures in 2027 encompassing 1,971 stalls. The breakdown includes 1,360 parking stalls for skiers at Deer Valley for the day and 611 stalls described as private.
A gondola linking Snow Park with other locales at the resort in 2028.
A 200,000-square-foot hotel in 2029. The hotel would have 120 keys.
Branded residences in 2029 and 2030 involving 83 units and 300,000 square feet.
Village retail in 2029 covering 30,000 square feet with a mix of retailers and food and beverage purveyors.
A private members club in 2029 covering 25,000 square feet. The facility would have dedicated parking, access to the ski beach, a private clubhouse and area to store gear.
A 20,000-square-foot event center in 2030 with “plentiful indoor and outdoor” space.
Work at Snow Park Lodge in 2031 with details to be determined. The work involves 120,000 square feet. The three-year window between the projected completion date of the Snow Park work and the Winter Olympics in 2034 would provide time for Deer Valley and the Games organizers to finalize the details of the venue. The competition terrain is just outside Snow Park Lodge, but there will be other space requirements in support of the venue at the base. The eventual final timeline will be of interest to a wide swath of Parkites and Deer Valley skiers since it shows how a large development at the base area will progress over the course of multiple years. The early work on garages will be of consequence since so much of the resort’s parking is located at Snow Park. There are longstanding development rights attached to the land where the Snow Park lots are located, but Deer Valley must secure another set of approvals from City Hall before a project can proceed. City Hall and Deer Valley are pursuing a public-private partnership addressing transportation and housing. The project would remake Snow Park into a full-service base area from one that currently provides parking but only limited other facilities in Snow Park Lodge. The concept calls for residences, a hotel, commercial or retail space and an event center. The City Council meeting on Thursday is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. at the Marsac Building. The elected officials are slated to take input from the public, but a decision is not expected on Thursday. The meeting will also be broadcast online at parkcity.org.
