PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Nibbles Woodway will continue the tradition of kicking-off the Rhode Island holiday season with the 32nd annual Holiday Lighting ceremony on Monday. The event, according to a release, will feature Geraldine Perry, the person who gave Nibbles Woodaway its name, as celebrity lighter. The Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Rhode Island will also be honored. The released stated that Perry, who is now 87-years-old, entered a public contest Big Blue Bug Solutions held in 1990 to name the now-iconic termite that watches over I-95 in Providence. One of her three submissions was selected from nearly 1,000 received from the public. While ironing clothes on her day off from her job in the Narragansett Clothing warehouse in Tiverton, she learned about the contest. Her submission, Nibbles Woodaway, was selected by the company as the official name. The event will take place at 6 p.m. in the parking lot of Big Blue Bug Solutions. Categories: News
