UTEP men's basketball hands UC Santa Barbara fourth nonconference loss in six seasons

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - Headed into the game, UC Santa Barbara was 42-3 against non-conference opponents since the 2017-2018 season. UTEP handed the Gauchos its fourth loss during that time span Wednesday night following the Miners 79-76 victory.
This also marks the programs first non-conference road win against an opponent at its own home court since December 2021.
The Miners never trailed during the matchup having an offensive edge over the Gauchos led by Devon Barnes who dropped 23-points on the night, follow by Otis Frazier III with 21. As a team, the Miners shot just above 49% from the floor which included 50% from the 3-point range.
Defensively, UTEP kept UC Santa Barbara at bay particularly at a distance. Prior to the game the Gauchos entered the night ranked 11th nationally in terms of 3's per game at 12. UC Santa Barbara was only able to successfully sink seven.
Forced turnovers continues to be the Miners strong suit this season forcing 16 Wednesday night which was translated into 20 points.
UTEP will remain on the road for its next three games at the Bull Dawgs Classic in Las Vegas, facing San Jose State on Nov. 25th.
