WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) -- An extension of New Hope Drive officially opened Wednesday afternoon allowing Williamson County drivers an alternate way to get home. The City of Cedar Park and Williamson County officials held a ribbon cutting to commemorate the road's opening.
The City of Cedar Park said the extension of New Hope Drive is just about two miles long and connects Ronald Reagan Boulevard and Sam Bass Road. The road is located just north of FM 1431.

Officials said the completed project was aimed at easing traffic in the area, improving safety and opening up further opportunities for economic growth. They also said that there was more work being done beneath the road.
"We are bringing water and sewer service to this area. There's also, traffic lights, [and] the roadway lighting. So there's a lot that you don't see under the ground, and wastewater service is going to encourage that economic development," Cedar Park Assistant Director of Public Utilities Michael Huber said.
