COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) - Meet Pesto, an adoptable dog at the Franklin County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center, who is looking for a loving home. Pesto, also called Pesto the Penguin, is a large mixed breed, Pitbull-type dog, according to Animal Care Manager Hannah Henschen. Pesto is about 3 to 4 years old and has been at the shelter for the last two months as a stray. Pesto's name comes from a penguin, also named Pesto, who was born in Australia at the Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium and went viral on social media this year. "They both have similar body types, they're both very big and round," Henschen said. "So around the same time the world was learning about Pesto the penguin, we got Pesto the penguin dog." Henschen mentioned that Pesto is a "sweet guy" and would be good for a home that would keep him active and go on daily walks. Where to find Santa in central Ohio in 2024 "He is a little rotund, so he probably could use a home to help him lose a few pounds or so," Henschen said. "He's not the most active dog we have but he's looking to become a little more active and get out there." Pesto is good with other dogs and is available for meet and greets at the Franklin County Dog Shelter, which is located at 4340 Tamarack Blvd. in Columbus.
