FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Amidst the low temperatures hitting the City of Fresno, the Fresno Mission has opened a warming center to host those who do not have a warm space to stay overnight.
Officials with the Fresno Mission announced the opening of this warming center on Tuesday, but the center opened on Nov. 12. The warming center will be open every night, beginning at 8:30 p.m., to provide a "safe and welcoming space" for people seeking refuge from the cold.
Officials add the center can accommodate up to 90 people each night. Hot meals are always available for those staying in the warming center, with dinner served between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., and breakfast Monday through Friday served from 6 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. and from 7 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. on the weekends.
The warming center is located at 263 G St. in Fresno. The Fresno Mission says this warming center is distinct from the City Center, which is not designated as a warming center.
The Fresno Mission is reaching out to the community, asking those who would like to help to donate twin-size sheets and blankets. These can be dropped off at the Fresno Mission at 263 G Street in Fresno or at the City Center at 2025 E. Dakota Ave., in Fresno. Monetary donations are also being accepted.
