OAKHURST, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man was arrested after shooting a K-9 following a rampage in a stolen vehicle Wednesday afternoon, the Madera County Sheriff's Office said. Madera County Sheriff's deputies say they were dispatched to a hit-and-run in Oakhurst around 3:30 p.m. where a stolen Toyota 4Runner was seen ramming into several vehicles. After fleeing the scene, deputies say the suspect, identified as 41-year-old Allen Scott Williams of Mariposa, drove up Highway 41 and then down Road 425B. The rightful owner of the Toyota spotted his missing car, began following it, and alerted deputies of the situation. Williams struck the car of the owner of the Toyota who was following him before traveling down a long driveway. He then got out and fled. Deputies on the scene say they chased Williams who produced a shotgun and fired at Madera County Sheriff K-9, Obie. Obie was transported to an emergency veterinarian clinic in Fresno. Doctors say he is expected to make a recovery following an extensive rehabilitation period but will live the rest of his life with shotgun pellets. An exchange of gunfire ensued and Williams was struck. Deputies say he was transported by helicopter to a Fresno hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Deputies say Williams was arrested for suspicion of violation of probation and assault with a deadly weapon. The sheriff's office says the Madera Police Department will conduct an outside independent criminal investigation, as is procedure with officer-involved shootings. The area is open for residents but the road remains closed for all other travelers.
