FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – New Life Recovery opened a brand new addiction recovery center near Downtown Fresno Wednesday. The center at 207 N. Broadway St. will serve both men and women, offering therapy, holistic treatments, medical aid and ongoing support after people graduate the program. “Things like fitness, cold plunge, sauna, anything that can help rewire your brain in a natural way, that's kind of what we're going for, along with the clinical side that we have to offer,” Co-founder Ben Milam said. The property includes three houses. The blue house is for those detoxing and has five beds. Next door is the green house, which is for residential care and has 11 beds. Finally, the grey house is for outpatient care. “Our motto here is ‘Love your Life.’ So we want to give people a new life,” Milam said. Milam looks forward to helping people build new lives, but he says his journey to being able to do so was a bumpy one. “I'm passionate about this because, personally, I'm in recovery. This is something that means a lot to me, and it's pretty big having this happen because it's kind of like a full circle deal,” Milam said. After he was arrested in 2009 and sentenced to six years in prison, Milam had two options: let addiction take over, or overcome addiction. Now, as a self-proclaimed ‘dopamine dealer,’ his mission is to share the freedom he has with others. “I can't wait to see what God is going to do in you and through you and through New Life,” Milam’s mother Liz Harrison said. Wednesday’s grand opening was emotional, attended by many who spent years praying for Milam’s recovery.  California State Assemblyman Jim Patterson was there, and told Milam, “You were healed and you were made whole for the purpose that the Lord had for you from the time He knit you together in your mother’s womb.” Milam’s friends and family call him the Prodigal Son after coming home and starting a new life. “I've been through a lot in my life. And I feel like God has a plan and this is it,” Milam said. He says, if he can start a new life, anyone can. He looks forward to helping those experiencing addiction rewrite their stories and then turn around and help others as well. While the center is a for-profit organization, he says donations help to fund scholarships. He welcomes any donations from the public to support their work.
