When is the right time to put up your Christmas decorations?

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - It's a debate that comes around every season: some people think decorations should wait until December and others are putting up mistletoe the first week of November.
YourCentralValley.com spoke to one local seasonal expert to hear what they had to say about the right time for holiday décor.

The Chase Flower Shop, tucked away at the foot of Van Ness Village near Fresno's Tower District, features decorative window displays at the start of each season. Those decorations have struck a chord with customers through the years.
"We don't get a ton of walk-ins on this side of the Tower," said the shop's current owner Beth Cliff. "I would say, probably once a week, somebody says, 'I saw your window, and they said I should stop in and see what this place is all about.'"
Cliff says Chase Flower Shop's window has become known for its festive décor that changes each season and they have figured out the right time to put up their Christmas decorations.
According to Cliff, as soon as Halloween is over, staff at the shop get Thanksgiving decorations up. When Thanksgiving is a week away, their internal alarm goes off to tell them to transition to the next season.
"We are transitioning now into Christmas," Cliff said. "Thanksgiving is coming a little later this year. So I guess internal clock-wise, that's kind of our clue."
Cliff says her family in particular was keen to welcome Christmas.
"When I was a kid, and I'm from the Valley, my mom would open the door to trick-or-treaters with Christmas music in the background," Cliff said.
Cliff says that at Chase's Flower Shop, though lots of their inventory is available year-round, the changing of the season has more implications than just being the first to set up lights. They have holiday inventory to worry about - and make sure their customers know that inventory is available.
"We start bringing in the poinsettia flowers probably the first week of December," Cliff says. "We already have Christmas orders."
Whether you are gearing up to sell gifts or buy them, it's clear that in the eyes of this flower shop owner, setting up for Christmas as early as possible is the way to go.
