(KRON) -- Three suspects from San Francisco were arrested in connection to a grand retail theft that happened Tuesday night at Lucky in Livermore, according to the Livermore Police Department. The theft happened around 8:45 p.m. when a woman walking her dog reported the crime.
After leaving the grocery store on Portola Avenue, the suspects escaped in a white Honda CRV, according to LPD. The SUV had illegally-tinted windows, prompting a traffic stop by police.
Once LPD officers conducted the traffic stop, they saw a large quantity of unopened toothpaste boxes and tote bags that were full of merchandise. LPD said the suspects admitted to stealing those items. They also confessed to stealing from Safeway on First Street, which is about a mile away.
A total of 707 items worth more than $8,500 were stolen from Lucky, LPD said. Thirty-four items worth more than $480 were stolen from the Safeway.
