ARLINGTON, Tenn. -— An Arlington couple had a close encounter with a 100-pound deer that crashed into their home on Brunswick Road.
Gary Fish was standing in his kitchen Wednesday afternoon when the buck jumped through a glass door on the side of his house.
Fish said the next thing he knew, the dazed deer had knocked him to the floor.

“I didn’t know what it was at first. It was like an explosion, “ he said. “We went down, and his antlers got stuck in my shoes, and then he started running through the house from there."
His wife Sharon was in another room at the time. She heard the commotion, saw the uninvited guest, and called 911.
“They told me to calm down, but they didn’t understand a word I was saying,” Sharon said. "I was talking 90 to nothing and probably talking loud because the deer was in the house and tearing up everything. I was just thinking, come and get the deer out of the house!"
The couple said the deer was inside their kitchen and den for around 15 minutes, trying to find a way out. They said the wild animal damaged furniture, punched a hole in a wall, and jumped through another window when it made its escape.
Gary had a few cuts on his arm from all the broken glass. He said they were just relieved the deer didn't run through the rest of the house and that no one was seriously hurt.
He said they see deer all the time but he never expected to have one inside his house.
"I don’t know what would make the animal come through the glass door like that. I don’t know if you saw a reflection or what I or was just running and didn’t see the glass," Gary said. "It was pretty wild."
He said they had planned to host Thanksgiving, but because of the deer damage, the dinner has been moved to their daughter's house. Now, he has a great story to tell at the table.
