City of Asheboro holds input meeting for feedback on downtown parking

ASHEBORO, N.C. (WGHP) -- The City of Asheboro wants to hear feedback from the community about downtown parking.
They held an input meeting on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. City officials say getting this feedback will help them figure out which changes need to be made.
People want more parking.
“I love eating at The Table. We come here every week. I always try to beat the lunch traffic, but I still have nowhere to park,” Dwayne Freedman said.
Freedman says he’s a little too familiar with the parking situation in downtown Asheboro.
“We normally circle around a couple of times. Can’t find a place to park ... Normally, we end up parking out on Sunset Street,” Freedman said.
Tim Wilda says he’s had similar experiences.
Wilda says if there was easier parking access, he’d probably come downtown more.
“We’re not from here, but we’re from the area, so when we do pass through, we like to stop in ... Sometimes, it’s a little annoying when you can’t find a place,” Wilda said.
Tyler McLeod, a local realtor in Asheboro, said the city is about to see a lot of growth.
“A lot of the Floridians or people that have come to those states since COVID. They’re moving here because of our cost of living. There’s a lot of opportunities if you’re young and you want to get into a profession, especially with Raleigh and Charlotte. We are in the dead center of those two areas,” McLeod said.
Adding parking is critical to keep up, but McLeod says the city is going to have to get creative.
“Because it's old mills were converting. Not new buildings that have those regulations of parking,” McLeod said.
Assistant City Manager Trevor Nuttall says the city won’t have any plans in place until the city gets back data and feedback.
