How to navigate bad weather while traveling
Nov 20, 2024
(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — As the holiday travel season approaches, the only thing that makes holiday travel worse is bad weather. Here are some travel tips to help you navigate whatever weather throws your way this holiday season.
First, if you can help it try to make your travel plans for early in the day. According to Forbes Magazine, planning your travel early can help you avoid more flight cancellations and delays than if you plan your travel for later as a lot of things can get delayed as the day goes on. In addition, in more of a summer scenario, if you travel earlier in the day, then you tend to miss weather delays due to thunderstorms.
Next, remember to pack extra provisions and an empty water bottle. Nothing is worse than when weather causes cancellations and you need food in an airport when an airport restaurant is closed or just being thirsty on a plane and attendants can't do drink service because of turbulence. Having something there can really help you.
What about if you are headed out on the roads? First, do a check of your car a week before you leave. And if you do get stuck on the road, the National Weather Service suggests running your vehicle for 10 minutes per hour and opening a car window to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. In addition, try to remember to keep your dome light on or keep something very bright like a bright cloth in your car to make it easier for emergency responders to spot your car if needed.
