IDENTIFIED: Woman killed after being hit by vehicle in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The woman who died after being hit by a vehicle in Fresno on Tuesday night has been identified by the Fresno County Coroner's Office.
The Fresno County Coroner's Office named the woman as 41-year-old Rachel Vanderpool of Fresno.
Police say on Tuesday night they received reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision at Cesar Chavez Boulevard and Third Street in Fresno around 6:10 p.m.
Officers say that a preliminary investigation revealed that Vanderpool stepped off the center median into the eastbound lanes of traffic. At the same time, an oncoming vehicle was approaching the area.
According to police, the vehicle was unable to stop in time and struck Vanderpool.
Investigators say Vanderpool was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. The driver stayed on the scene.
